I feel that the Shut Out trailer doesn’t do justice to the book.
The focus in the trailer is more on the makeout scenes than the sex strike. And okay, there are quite a few makeout scenes in Shut Out yet….
Okay, I have read the book. There’s a lot of tension between Lissa and Cash. And before she actually starts kissing him, she just feels so unsure and uncertain of herself and Cash, the kissing scene in the library for example.
She just turns and smiles at him?! How can that be?
I’m not doing this to be mean. I like Vania and I do like some of her trailers. But sometimes I wonder… if she feels the need to place the emphasis on makeout scenes. Yes, I gather that there is a lot of making out in Shut Out and other YA books, however, there was very little emphasis on the football and soccer team rivalry in the trailer. Lissa didn’t look annoyed when she and Randy got splashed, she looked half amused, half irritated. This trailer doesn’t give me a single hint to how Lissa truly felt about Cash except that she was really into him. This model also didn’t have Lissa’s pride, determination and ego.
However… I will say that these two models playing Cash and Lissa really do know how to kiss. Either that or they are kinda attracted to each other. It would be nice if marketing teams get the model for the book covers to act in the trailer. But I wouldn’t know how much time and money goes into that. I’m sure it’s a lot of work.
Last words… this trailer is better than some of V’s trailers which I kinda didn’t like, the Beautiful Darkness trailer for example which really felt more like a slideshow with images that didn’t make sense and a narrator who didn’t appeal.
In V’s defense, she doesn’t have a huge team to work with not like some of the art and marketing teams at major publishers.
The last amazing trailer I know of is the one for From Bad to Cursed.
P.S. Kody, the author of Shut Out and Vania of VLC Photo are holding an amazing giveaway. There’s ARCs of upcoming releases, Shut Out swag and lots of stuff. You can enter here
